Brussels
We slept until 10:00 am – so we were very tired. Had coffee and croissants to get us going.
Let's talk a little about the weather. It is cloudy and Tony said previously that it is cloudy every day and now, we believe him. Total clouds! Tony and Janni have been living in Brussels for about a year and a half so they know.
We took an uber to the center of Brussels and walked around. Beautiful city with unique architecture. There is a King and Queen and we viewed their palace from the outside. There is a flag pole on the building and when they are in the palace a flag is flying – well, we could not visit them because they were not home (no flag).
Many people out and about. Stopped for lunch at Au Vieux Saint Martin and ate outside. Eating and people watching. Nowadays, the Brussels-Capital Region is officially bilingual in French and Dutch, although French is the majority language.
We walked to The Grand Place. The Grand-Place is the central square of the City of Brussels. All over the world it is known for its decorative and aesthetic wealth. The Grand-Place is surrounded by the guild houses, the City Hall and the Maison du Roi. The Grand-Place is considered as one of the most beautiful places of the world.
Of course, when in Belgium we have to try chocolate, which we bought some to take home, and waffles. So many different types – we bought the plain and sugar coated but other people were buying them with everything sweet on top. Line was out the door.
In the evening we had wine and cheese and then Tony made pasta carbonara for dinner. A great day of touring and capped off with a great dinner.
