Day 8

A quick breakfast and a 10-minute walk to Le Bus Direct and 30-minute ride to airport. Checking in was very easy especially when you use your phone for the boarding pass.

We had a 30-minute delay for luggage loading. Then some idiot decided he did not want to be on the flight and deplaned. Now they had to search the cargo hole for his luggage and remove it. – more delay. The A380 airbus can hold more than 600 passengers in a two-level seating configuration- too big. We had originally had 3-hour layover in Atlanta but then it was cut to 2 because we arrived late. Now this was going to be close to make our connection because U.S. Customs can be a pain.

So after landing a 747 blocked our way to our gate, it had some issues. Another 30-minute delay! Now we could miss our flight. At the gate they had trouble with the skywalk – another 15-minute delay. A mad dash to U.S. Customs. Remember there are over 500 on the plane and all are going through U.S. Customs. Fortunately we have Global Entry (advise anyone traveling to get this). The Global Entry line was very short and with TSA Precheck the security lines were also relatively short. The people that did not have this are probably still in line today.

Made to our gate on time only to have the Pittsburgh flight delayed. It was a 3-hour delay because of a gate issue due to high winds and then security sweeps.

Arrived in Pittsburgh 2 ½ hours late. Not bad. Airline staff was very helpful and it was not too stressful.

Geno and Lord Stanley were happy to see us.  But they love our house/dog/cat sitter!
