We woke up early to say goodbye to Janni, who had to go to work at 8. Just a great lady.
Worked on the web, answered some emails and then packed and tidied up our room. Tony took us for coffee and a croissant at an outside café. Note - The croissant - the key to this flaky viennoiserie is simply a good butter—preferably from Normandy—with a high melting point.
We so appreciate what Tony has done for us. Often stayed up late at night just talking. Tony escorted us to the train station and waited with us as we watched the board to find the correct track for our train. Then we boarded the wrong car thanks to me but, Dow corrected me and we eventually got off and on the right car on time (what can I say?). The train does not have Wi-Fi which is a bummer – oh well.
Janni and Tony are great hosts!
So we have received emails asking how we met Tony and Janni. First we met Tony in Pittsburgh as he is the son of Joe & Carmela, who own LaTavola Ristorante. Five years ago Tony opened Pizza Taglio in East Liberty which served great pizza. He had reconnected with Janni and they got married last year in Hawaii. She was posted in Seoul, South Korea at that time. She came to visit Tony in Pittsburgh where we met her and were so happy for the both of them. Her next posting was in Strasbourg so Tony closed Pizza Taglio and joined Janni in Strasbourg.
After a fast train across France and a taxi ride to our place we settled in at our B&B. Bought a baguette then went to a nearby grocery store to buy pate, cheese and of course wine. That was our dinner for the night. We then walked to 2 of our favorite restaurants to make reservations for Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Retired early, though we miss our late night sessions with Tony.
