Giorno cinque

La colazione è arrivata in quel fantastico cestino. (Breakfast came in that great basket.)

Dopo una visita al villaggio di Castellina in Chianti siamo andati a Panzano. (After a visit to the village of Castillina in Chianti we went to Panzano.) We visited the shop   of the famous Dario Cecchini (born 1955) who is a leading contemporary internationally known Italian butcher. He's the eighth-generation butcher at Antica Macelleria Cecchini. His store is amazing and if we could store some meats we would have maxed out our credit card! He was featured in one  of  Anthony Bourdain's visits  to Italy.

Then on to Greve for the annual Wine Expo del Chianti Classico.  There were 66 producers of Chianti Classico wines offering different years and varieties of their wines and another tasting pavilion where there were 82 other bottles of Chianti to try.  You bought a glass for 10€ and could sample 7 for which you got a punch on your card - but many wineries didn't punch so we tried many more than 7!!

We purchased some wines and gave two of them to our driver, Giovanni, who directed us to the wines that he knew and liked. All of our drivers last year and this have been very good but Giovanni is the best!!  Not only a good driver but an interesting young man and very fluent in English.  So tho we don't get to practice our Italian, we can enjoy conversations about a wide variety of topics without thinking  too much - from wine to politics to movies to music (but he knows more about rap than we do!!).

Per la cena siamo andati a L'artevino. (For diner we went to L'artevino.) First we both had the seafood soup which was outstanding. Dow ordered the seabass and I had the pork filet. Excellent!
