Our internal alarm clock got us up before our iPhone alarm. So we got to the bus station early and hopped on an early bus to Pisa. (Our tickets cost 3.50 euros each.) Alitalia did not have any early flights so we had to wait to check our bags. Pisa is a much bigger airport than Florence. Flight to Rome was smooth and the Rome airport is one of the best.
Our problem came at JFK where we had to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 (7 minute walk –not bad but would be bad in winter) where we were told get a bus to terminal 4. We asked 4 workers how to catch the bus to Terminal 4 and got 4 different wrong answers. Finally another young worker told us we had to go through security and then we ended up taking a long walk to our gate in Terminal 4. We finally boarded the plane to Pittsburgh but had to deplane because the pilot detected a fuel leak (good job by pilot). They kept us informed and found another plane (god job Delta). After a bus ride to another gate, new security check, then another bus ride to hangar for the plane, we boarded. All that and only hour 15 minutes late.
Called Uber as soon as we had our bags. Walked out he was there. Yea Uber! (The driver told us his mother is in Italy now.) Great ride! Uber is a great service. You have a position tracker on the Uber app so you know where your ride is located. Show the driver your Uber app and there is no problem.
Traveling can have it hiccups but you can always find solutions.
We are happy to be home, really enjoyed our trips and thanks for following us. We love your support!
Grazie Mille Tutti; torneremo all'Italia anno prossimo.
(Thank you very much everyone; we will return to Italy next year).
A presto!
