Il sole è brillante e il cielo è molto blu. (The sun is brilliant and sky is very blue.)
Had a very restful night and now we are ready to go. Siamo andati a Piazza Grande che è nel centro di Modena. Dieci minuti a piedi (We went to Piazza Grande which is in the middle of Modena. Ten minutes on foot.)
Beautiful Italian city with ancient walk ways, very few cars and of course many churches. Very few tourists here and no signs in English. We visited Mercato Albinetti, a big indoor market that has fruits, vegetables, pasta, cheese, meats and fish. If it is edible they have it.
We are having a quiet afternoon after exploring the town this AM and eating lunch at Trattoria Aldina, recommended by Dave Anoia. Lots of others must know about it too as it was full by 12:30 - we went at 12:04!! Came home from lunch and fell asleep - travel hangover. Plus some wine with lunch.
This is a beautiful town. Very walkable city and many areas with no cars. Few tourists though it will be busy this weekend as there is a world famous 3 day Festival. Who knew? Our apartment is in a quiet residential area but an easy walk to everything. Lucky that I found it - so far we have not seen any hotels. Ours only has 6 rooms. Or anything most cities have. No grocery stores (only the huge covered market that's open every day) and restaurants and small shops. It's very peaceful. And we are in the city center. Must be because most of the residents live outside what is called the city center. We planned to go to Pavarotti's home but it's 10km out of town - we will need a taxi or driver. Checking into price. We hear it's very interesting.
Dinner at Al Cenacolo which is a heaven for seafood lovers (see pics). Dow received a rose at the end of dinner – great day and night in Modena.
