Italy 2019

Un altro giorno che il sole è brillante e il cielo è molto blu. (Another day that the sun is brilliant and sky is very blue.)

Oggi abbiamo visitato la casa di Pavarotti. (Today we visited the house of Pavarotti.) It is outside Modena so we had to find a taxi. We walked to the taxi stand and waited -  finally a couple from Modena came along and called a taxi for us. They could not speak English but, were very helpful. We had a nice conversation with taxi drivers, who drove us both ways, in Italian and some English. Abbiamo visitato la casa di Pavarotti per tre ore. (We visited Pavarotti's house for three hours.) Molto interessante e educativa. Ci piace molto Pavarotti. (Most interesting and educational. We really like Pavarotti.) We had seen the film, at the Tull in Sewickley, that Ron Howard made of his life and it was fantastic. The house was nothing special from the outside but, inside was amazing. He died there of pancreatic cancer in 2007 at the age of 71. Herbert Von Karajan said it best – “When he was born, God kissed his vocal cords”.

At night we had reservations at Trattoria Redecocca. The owner of the hotel knew the owner of the osteria and made reservations for us. Lucky she did as people were turned away who didn't have reservations. We got a great table outside and ordered. Per antipasto abbiamo condiviso salumi, formaggi e pane speciale modenese. (For antipasto we shared meats, cheese, and special hot puffy Modena bread.) With the bread you made a sandwich. For the next course Dow had tortellini and I had ravioli. My ravioli had a balsamic vinegar sauce which was one of the best sauces I have ever tasted. Dow's pasta was great also. Tutta la pasta fatta in casa. (All  the pasta was homemade.) La pasta è stata la migliore. (The pasta was the best.)
