Italy 2019

Un'altra bella giornata (Another beautiful day).

We got up before the 7:00am alarm went off, as we could not sleep past 6:00am. Packed up and checked everything twice. Had an espresso before we left our room. La proprietaria Raffaella, è stata li dire addio per ora e buon viaggio. Torneremo l'anno prossimo. (The owner, Raffealla, who was there to say goodbye for now and have a good trip. We will return next year.) As you will see from the photos we are all very attached. A great lady, who made our stay over the top!

We left at 8:15am and took a 25-minute walk to the train station. Bought our tickets and had 5 minutes to find the right tracks. We just made it! It can be crazy because to get from one track to another usually you have to go down below and back up – you're not able to walk across tracks to get between tracks! Everyone had an assigned seat on this train but because we jumped on the train just in time we were in the wrong area. Oh well, luckily the train was not full. On to Firenze and the next train to Pisa. Run, run because we were waiting at the assigned track 2, but they changed it to track 3 at the last minute. It was so full we spent 45 minutes standing in the vestibule (between cars) with 9 other people. In Pisa we got another train to Lucca and no assigned seats so everything was fine as we found seats together. Walked from the train station to our apartment around 1:00 pm.

We emailed our contact, Debora, whom we have been dealing with for 10 years. She greeted us and gave us the keys.  Un'altra grande signora in Italia! (Another great lady in Italy!)

We now are settled in and that is easy because this is our 5th year in this apartment and our 10th year in Lucca. We know the routine.

I went out and bought wine, cheese and bread. Dow relaxed and she pumped down painkillers. Hats off to Dow for climbing up and down stairs with luggage at each station – Brava Dow!!!!!!

We had dinner at All'osteria, which is a 2-minute walk. Both of us had tuna tartare for the first course. Dow had pici and I had risotto. We hit the sack early after a very good meal.
