Sole, siamo tornati alla normalità. (Sun, we are back to normal.)
We have decided next year we will stay in Lucca 3 weeks and take day trips by train or bus to visit other cities and villages around the area.
We decided to walk outside to see that part of the city and then on the wall. The population of Lucca is 90,000, 10,000 of whom live inside the walls. Ci siamo fermati in piazza San Michele per un panini. (We stopped in piazza San Michele for a panini.) That hit the spot! The little shop (capacity 3 – had to wait in line to order) is called La Tana del Boia – literally – the executioner's den!!!
We met Andrea & Katia for drinks before dinner. We were catching up because it has been 2 years since we have seen them. Andrea got a promotion. (He works for a huge company that manufactures toilet paper. They said everyone here was amused to read about the toilet paper shortages in the US!). Anyway, he was given a company car - he said that means “more work”. Katia and her partner do translations for companies.
Siamo stati a cena all'Osteria Da Pasquale. (We went to dinner at Osteria Da Pasquale.) We both had the seafood salad and Dow had the rabbit and I had the veal. Everything was great and the veal was the best I have ever had. Tender with lots of flavors. Of course Pasquale picked out the wines. We finally split a dessert – too good to pass on this time!
