Un'altra bella giornata. (Another beautiful day.)
Oggi tutto è andato il più liscio possibile. (Today went as smoothly as it could have.) Our landlord in Parma stopped to say goodbye. Uomo molto simpatico. (Very nice man.) If we come back we'd stay there again - hoping the kitchen would be available and that breakfast would be included.
We had trouble purchasing Dow's tickets on her phone last night, so I did it this morning on the laptop. All seemed well until we got on the train and Dow looked at her tickets (on the phone) and saw that they were for the 15th (tomorrow). OMG. (Of course, I would have the right day since I bought the tickets and I'm the tech guy.) Dow thought she would need to practice “whoops – his fault” Italian to the conductor - luckily one never came around to check. (Usually they come through the trains to check tickets.) The biggest problem was going to Florence as the train had assigned seats. Dow was in one train car (scheduled for tomorrow) and I was in another. Plan was to find an open seat and hope no one comes to take it and that is what happened. I moved back to “her” car finding another open seat. We try to travel in the early afternoon because fewer people take the train then.
We had 2 train changes – one in Bologna and one in Florence. We had only 15 minutes for the change in Bologna. (Remember we each had luggage and backpacks!) The train station in Bologna is multi-leveled and of course our train was on the bottom level and we came in on the top level. Thanks to escalators we made it with no problems. The change in Florence was easy because we know that train station and it is one level. We left Parma at 11:00am and arrived in Lucca at 3:25pm. A four hour and 25 minute trip including changes.
Siamo qui! (We are here!) We met the owner of our apartment again. She and her husband are great people. They rent the apartment to only a few people and since we have been here 4 years in a row they know us and would rent to us. Good friendship. Left us a bottle of water and two bottles of wine – a red and a white.
Siamo andati al supermercato per compare alcuni formaggi, salumi, e pane. (We went to the store to buy some cheese, meats, and bread). La cena sul balcone. (Dinner on the balcony.)
Le foto del nostro appartamento sono qui sotto. (The pictures of our apartment are below.)
