Italy 2022

Piove alla mattina. (Rain in the morning.) It will give us more time to unpack and get organized. We looked out our kitchen window and saw an air balloon. The view is beautiful enough and now add a balloon – wow! The views in Lucca are breathtaking. Ci piace Lucca molto molto.(We like Lucca very much.) Had a good sleep but we are still a little tired.

If you have not watched the video of Lucca that I sent before – please watch it and you will understand why we come here year after year.

Later in the morning the rain disappeared. Abbiamo camminato la mura e poi siamo andati al pranzo all'Osteria VispaTeresa. (We walked the wall and then went to lunch at Osteria VispaTeresa.) When in Italy we usually eat our big meal at lunch. The owner and his wife remembered us and greeted us with open arms!

We met Gisella in the afternoon to pick up some pills we left in her car yesterday. We were panicking last night as we thought we had left some at home. Gisella found them on the floor in her car. That was a close one. Can't even fathom the process of getting prescription pills here. It can be done but, the process would require time. While waiting for her, an older couple asked us where we were from. Had a nice conversation with them in both languages. They were very concerned about what they see happening in the U.S. So sad to see they said, as our country has always been one they admired for the “people and government that always seemed to be so good” at working out differences.

There are always different artistic works around Lucca and this year is no different. It is so interesting to turn a corner and come upon a work of art that we have not seen. These are located all over the city - so enjoy them as we do. The theme of 2022 is La pagina bianca - The blank page, a bridge between the past and future, an opportunity for free writing or the fear of the unknown infinite, the loss of a comfort zone or the courage to choose.

Abbiamo comprato salumi, focaccia, torta al limone e pizza fredda. (We bought some cold cuts, focaccia, lemon cake and cold pizza.)

We both took a little nap which we not do during the day so you know we were tired.

Per la cena abbiamo avuto salumi, formaggio, focaccia e vino sul nostro balcone. (For dinner we had cold cuts, cheese, focaccia and wine on our balcony.)
