Abbiamo lavorato sul sito web questa mattina. (We worked on the web site this morning.) We decided to have breakfast in Piazza San Michele. As we said before breakfast is some sweets and coffee or espresso. It was busy but, found a table and ordered. People watching for an hour. You can always pick out an American because they are wearing an NFL shirt, college shirt or baseball shirt. Same with the hat. They are so out of place here.
Siamo tornati al nostro appartamento per chiamare Katia. (We went back to our apartment to call Katia.) We are planning on going to Barga with them in the afternoon. Barga is a picturesque medieval village, with beautiful buildings along narrow and steep alleys. Katia called instead and told us Andrea's father had fallen. He had to go to emergency so our trip was cancelled. They are keeping him over night for more tests. Reminder to us - when you are traveling have a plan B, C and D.
Abbiamo camminato le mura nel pomeriggio. (We walked the wall in the afternoon.) Some sporting events were just finishing up like fencing, volleyball, boxing, biking, plus bike maintenance, etc. We did come across a medieval re-enactment of a camp, sword fighting and archery. As we were watching someone said “in the U.S. that would be a firing range”. Have not heard a lot of English. In the past if we heard English it would be British. We have heard from others that Americans have discovered Lucca and that there are many more here. We have met quite a few folks from the Netherlands.
Abbiamo cenato all'Osteria da Rosolo (We had dinner at Osteria da Rosolo). Dow had bruschetta and pappardelle with wild boar sauce. I had chicken liver crostini and then wild boar stew with polenta. Very good as usual. The wild boar tastes like a pork stew only more flavor. We eat at the restaurant at least twice when we are here, the waiters recognize us!
We visited and art exhibition - Gli Animali di Francesca (The animals of Francesca). Wonderful pictures of animals. The artist, from Lucca, has won many national awards, often painting endangered animals and birds. Luckily most of the paintings were marked “sold” or Dow would have wanted one!!!,
Drinks on the balcony.
